Some of the most important music from the past 70 years of the movement is collected in Let Freedom Sing, a new three-disc, 58-song Time Life collection that cuts across genres with voices both famous and obscure. The earliest recording in the set is Billie Holiday's 1939 anti-lynching tune Strange Fruit, though the Southern Son' 1941 Go Down Moses harks back further to spirituals and slavery field songs. The most recent, Free at Last by the Blind Boys of Alabama, was recorded in 2008... Saguaro Road Artist Blind Boys of Alabama win Grammy for Down in New Orleans February 10, 2009 — The Blind Boys of Alabama achieved an exceptional ‘perfecta’ at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles this past weekend. On Saturday, they received a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing the tremendous artistic success built during their 60 year-plus recording career. Then they won their fifth Grammy Award Sunday, taking home the trophy in the Best Traditional Gospel Album category for their 2008 release Down in New Orleans, which was produced by roots music producer Chris Goldsmith. Rarely has a band been honored for a lifetime of work and also for their most recent output at the same time. And they show no signs of slowing down. On February 24th, the Blind Boys of Alabama will release a new concert DVD, Live in New Orleans (Saguaro Road), filmed at Tipitina’s club during last year’s JazzFest and including guest performances by Dr. John, Susan Tedeschi, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and more... Click here to download the entire Blind Boys of Alabama win Fifth Grammy Award press release Cheryl Burke Embarks Upon Press Tour February 4, 2009 —Time Life, the leading direct-marketer of entertainment products, has teamed up with Cheryl Burke of “Dancing With the Stars,” to create a new fitness program, “Disco Abs” where viewers can shimmy to the biggest dance hits of the ‘70s while shedding unwanted pounds. Later this week, ”Dancing” star Cheryl will begin a 2-day press tour of appearances and interviews to promote the new workout collection, available to the public on Friday. Burke will appear live on ABC’s Good Morning America on Thursday, followed by an interview on ABC Radio, and an additional live interview on ABC News Now in the afternoon. On Friday, Burke will appear live on the CW New York and tape interviews with Westwood One Radio and Fox N’ Friends. The tour culminates with Burke appearing on the Rachel Ray Show, tentatively airing on Monday 2/23. Burke will speak about the new collection in-depth with Rachel Ray, and share her workout secrets with the audience.
